Also, Mr. Ambassador noted his personal achievements in bilateral cooperation between the countries. He is proud that during his tenure as ambassador he was able not only to contribute to cooperation, but also to change his mental image of Turkmenistan. The Civil Society organization “Nature Preserving Society of Turkmenistan” (NPST) was founded at its founding meeting in 1968 in Ashgabat, and represents a significant force in supporting government programs that are aimed at building a democratic state, where everyone should have the right to a favorable environment. With a membership base of approximately 350,000 individuals and legal entities, NPST has been a driving force in Turkmenistan’s environmental conservation efforts for over five decades. Over the years of activity, NPST has been repeatedly re-registered with the State Registration Service due to changes and improvements in the country’s legislation. In accordance with the law of Turkmenistan dated May 3, 2014 “On Public Associations”, the Statute of NPST was brought into compliance in the same year.

Since 1978, the organization has held esteemed membership in the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), underscoring its global recognition and commitment to environmental stewardship.

Over the years of activity, the NPST has been repeatedly re-registered with the State Registration Service due to changes and improvements in the country’s legislation. In accordance with the Law of Turkmenistan “On Public Associations”, created on May 3, 2014, the Statute of the NPST was brought into compliance in the same year.

From the inception of Turkmenistan’s independence, NPST has played a pivotal role in the National Greening Program, contributing up to 5% of the total saplings planted across the country. The organization’s dedication to environmental restoration and beautification is evident in its extensive tree-planting initiatives.

NPST’s pioneering spirit extends to its engagement in regional and international environmental initiatives. The organization was the first in Turkmenistan to facilitate the participation of Turkmen CSO representatives in regional teleconferences: the Volunteerism Teleconference on June 22, 2017, and the Teleconference on Climate Change Adaptation in Local Communities on September 25, 2018.

NPST’s active involvement extends to regional projects such as “Development through Regional Cooperation,” “Partnership for Innovation” (P4I), and “CA HUB/I4C Innovation for Change.” The organization holds a seat on the Public Council of the Intergovernmental Commission on Sustainable Development (ICSD) of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (IFAS).  NPST’s  employers were  the members of the CAREC ECO’s Board of Governors and Public Advisory  Council. In October 2019, NPST joined the Global Network of Civil Society Organizations for Disaster Reduction (GNDR), further solidifying its international presence and commitment to environmental resilience.

In 2017, at the 8th Annual International Conference “Inside View” in Almaty, a Turkmen CSO was awarded the prize for the best civil society initiative for the first time in the history of the International Annual Conference “Inside View”. This recognition was followed by the Lebap Regional Branch of NPST receiving the same award at the subsequent year’s conference through an online voting process.

NPST’s commitment to capacity building and regional collaboration is evident in its participation in the 2017 Regional Internship on Volunteerism Development. This engagement led to the signing of a Framework Multi-Party Cooperation Agreement among CSOs of Central Asia.

The organization’s expertise and dedication were further recognized when SPNT staff were frequently invited to stakeholder meetings for the preparation of Turkmenistan’s Voluntary National Review on the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDGs).
