New candidate from PAE «Tebigy Kuwwat» joins the CAREC Board of Governors



On December 3, 2024, the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia (CAREC) hosted an open meeting of the Board of Governors (BoG) and the Public Advisory Council (PAC) in a hybrid format at its main office. The event was attended by Berkeli Atayev and Teymur Aliyev, representatives of the Aarhus Centre of Turkmenistan and the Public Association Enterprise (PAE) «Tebigy Kuwwat».

The meeting featured the presentation of a draft regulation for the PAC, outlining its activities and operational framework. Attendees also reviewed the outcomes of a project focused on CAREC’s institutional development, supported by financial contributions from the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC). Discussions explored ways to enhance CAREC’s operations and establish it as a hub for international initiatives and projects, ensuring its long-term sustainability.

In the second half of a day, CAREC held its 58th Board of Governors meeting, where the nomination of Berkeli Atayev to represent Turkmenistan’s civil society on the BoG was considered. His candidacy was unanimously approved and is set to be formally confirmed in the near future.

The meeting also addressed membership renewals for some BoG members and the conclusion of terms for others. Members who made exceptional contributions to CAREC’s growth were honored with certificates of appreciation. The event concluded with a presentation of CAREC’s annual report by the Executive Director and сountry directors, summarizing the achievements of 2024. One of the highlights was the speech by Mergen Kepbanov, Director of Project office of the CAREC in Turkmenistan, who emphasized the national office’s significant efforts to strengthen collaboration with civil society.
